Street party for Santa's arrival at Princes Quay

09/11/2016

A Christmas street party for all the family will be held in Hull city centre for the first time this year - complete with a Winter Wonderland ice rink.

The event will be entirely free to attend and will mean people can skate in the outdoors. There will be a variety of other entertainment including a magician, balloon modellers, themed stilt walkers, giant elves and face painters which will all be free.

Princes Quay Shopping Centre is hosting the event on Sunday 20 November and says the wow factor of the party will be when Santa arrives in grand style on a boat in the dock.

Once Santa has arrived at the jetty there will be a float driving him to the stage on the dockside for him to welcome the crowds. He will then make his way to the grotto on the ground floor of the shopping centre where he will officially open it.

HullBID is supporting the event by offering financial involvement and the tenants on the dockside including McCoys, Blue Water, Furley and Co and ASK will all be getting involved. The Santa party will replace the popular Santa parade which Princes Quay have held for past seven years.

In partnership with HullBID, Princes Quay Marketing and Customer Services Manager Sarah Smith is responsible for organising and running the event. She said: “For several years we have adapted the Christmas parade and made it bigger and more spectacular.

“This year we wanted to offer more to the visitors on the day by organising activities that everyone could enjoy and for a longer period of time.

“The ice rink, children's rides balloon modelling and face painting is totally free from 11am-2pm and we are encouraging as many people as possible to come along and join in the festive celebrations for what is set to be a great Street Party hosted by Santa himself."

In 2015 an increase of over 12,000 visitors were recorded coming into the City for the Frozen themed parade and event organisers hope thousands of people will also attend this event, which will be hosted on stage by Viking FM.

David Lee's Panto stars will be in attendance and the East Riding band will be performing. There will also be a variety of Disney characters attending to meet the children.
