A Christmas Carol cast add to St Stephen's event

15/11/2017

The cast of Hull Truck Theatre’s A Christmas Carol will take to the stage at St Stephen’s Shopping Centre this Thursday night as part of the official lights switch on.

The cast are taking a break from rehearsals to give shoppers an exclusive preview of some of the original music composed for the show by John Biddle, who penned the tunes for A Christmas Treasure Island at Hull Truck Theatre last year.

The cast will be performing twice between approximately 7.15pm and 7.45pm on the stage at the entrance to St Stephen’s.

Thursday also marks the first late night Christmas shopping evening of the year at St Stephen’s shopping centre. Other entertainment on the evening includes the official opening of Thor’s tipi bar, a Christmas pop-up with a difference that’s taken up residence outside Hull Truck Theatre until New Year’s Eve. There will also be a live band playing traditional Christmas songs.

A Christmas Carol is running at Hull Truck Theatre from Friday 1 December 2017 until Saturday 6 January 2018.

On a cold Christmas Eve, four spirits conspire to show Ebenezer Scrooge the error of his ways. His old business partner, Jacob Marley has returned from the dead to offer him a second chance, if he can change his mean and miserly behaviour.

Nowhere are the effects of poverty more keenly felt than in the Cratchit family, especially by their youngest son, Tiny Tim. As Scrooge’s inspirational journey shows him both the hardship and love of those around him, he is reminded of his own powers of charity and kindness.

This fresh adaptation of Dickens’ classic Christmas ghost story is directed by Amy Leach (The Borrowers at Sherman Cymru; Kes and The Nightmare Before Christmas at West Yorkshire Playhouse; Dracula at Theatre Royal Bath), and adapted by playwright and actor Deborah McAndrew (An August Bank Holiday Lark; Till the Cows Come Home; The Grand Gesture).
