Give the Gift of Theatre this Christmas

16/11/2018

This festive season, Hull Truck Theatre are asking audiences and the general public to donate generously to their Christmas appeal, Give the Gift of Theatre.

For the first time ever, donations will be doubled thanks to match-funding made available through Arts Council England’s fundraising and capacity building initiative, Catalyst. This means that by giving just £5, this would cover the cost of a ticket for one child to visit the theatre.

Donations will give children living in deprived communities in the local area the chance to attend a performance at the theatre during the festive season. Often these children would be attending the theatre for the first time. Children will have the opportunity to create lasting memories with classmates, peers and in some cases, family members.

Davide Calogero, Director of Development at Hull Truck Theatre, said: “We hope that this year's campaign will encourage people to give more than ever before so that we can provide as many children as possible the opportunity to experience the magic of live theatre. The scheme is run in partnership with fantastic local charity, Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University. Although the scheme has run year-round for the last few years, this is a unique opportunity to increase donations pound-for-pound with match-funding.”

Natasha Banke, Director of Hull & East Yorkshire Children’s University, said: “Each year Hull Truck Theatre is able to provide us with hundreds of tickets that we then give to children living in foster care and schools in areas of disadvantage. These children have never been to the theatre before and it’s an incredible opportunity for them. A person who visits the theatre as a child is twice as likely to return as an adult, so this programme really does give children the gift of theatre for life.”
