14/11/2019

The Lord Mayor of Hull and special guests are getting ready to switch-on Hull’s Christmas lights this Thursday (14 November).

The countdown to turning on the lights will again take place in Queen Victoria Square.

Entertainment will get underway from 5pm and Lord Mayor of Hull Councillor Steve Wilson, along with his invited guests Special Olympics GB athlete Sophie Carter and inspirational teenager Harrison Torr, will switch on the lights at 6.45pm.

Andy Train will take the reigns as host on Hull City Hall balcony from 5.25pm with a whole host of live performances, programmed courtesy of Back to Ours, with local talent including singers Mia Codd, Casey Adams, Jessica Mae Bennett and Kristian Eastwood, plus comedian Jack Gleadhow and a special performance by Dolly Parton tribute, Beebi Del.

Queen Victoria Square will come alive with light and sound installations across the evening, entertaining the thousands expected to attend. Plus, look out for the giant gingerbread light installations on King Edward Street - you can't miss them!

Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Steve Wilson, said: “This year’s Christmas lights switch-on is going to be a fantastic highlight in the festive calendar and I am pleased to have been able to ask these very special young people to help me with this year’s event.

“It really will be something special to see Queen Victoria Square packed with people ready to kick-off Christmas in style.”
