City centre businesses offer family fun with festive gingerbread hunt

18/11/2019

A festive gingerbread scavenger hunt is enticing families into Hull city centre with the promise of fun finding the clues hidden in shops and other businesses – and a mouth-watering prize at the end.

HullBID has recruited 16 outlets around the city centre which will put a picture of a gingerbread man in their window or among their displays.

Participants need to crack the clues in in the competition forms to identify the 16 outlets, then find the gingerbread man symbols and note down the letter. They then need to rearrange the letters to discover the secret message.

The first correct answer pulled out of the hat after the closing date of Sunday 5 January 2020 will win a £20 voucher for Kaspa’s Desserts in Paragon Square.

As sponsor, Kaspa’s has shared the secret of its own place on the trail but you have to visit the restaurant to find out which letter is displayed on its gingerbread man.

Hannah Foster, Operations Manager for Kaspa’s in Hull and Leeds, said: “The trail is a really nice idea and a great way to attract families into the city centre and encourage them to visit different areas.

“We’re delighted to work with HullBID in being part of the trail and in sponsoring it with the special prize. We look forward to welcoming the winners to Kaspa’s in the New Year.”

The competition forms are available now from all the outlets which are taking part in the scavenger hunt. Completed forms can be posted at Hares & Graces opposite the gingerbread house in King Edward Street or the Welcome Information Centre at Paragon Interchange.

Catherine Goble, HullBID Marketing & Events Co-ordinator, said: “We have installed the gingerbread house with all its lights to give families that Instagram moment for festive photographs and we decided to also use it as theme for a fun game.

“The gingerbread hunt gives families the opportunity to spend time together and have fun exploring areas of the city centre which they might not visit very often. Gingerbread men are hidden at different locations in the main streets and shopping centres, the Old Town and the Marina area, including shops, pubs, restaurants and other buildings.

“We’re grateful to Kaspa’s for coming up with a prize which is a real family treat and for offering a special competition package, with their gingerbread latte and their chocolate and strawberry ice cream available for just £1 to people participating in the scavenger hunt.”
