Celebrate Christmas with festive films at Hull Truck Theatre

Get into the Christmas spirit with a range of films from the Hull Truck Screen live event screenings and cinema programme.
The first December offering is a live screening of Jane Eyre from the National Theatre on Tuesday 8 December, presented by NTLive. This acclaimed adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s novel is directed by Sally Cookson, an associate artist of the Bristol Old Vic. The production has an inventive set designed by Michael Vale, who has worked on productions at the English National Opera, Manchester’s Royal Exchange and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
On Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December Hull Truck Theatre present the 1950s festive favourite White Christmas. It’s a heart-warming, festive romantic comedy packed with well-loved Irving Berlin tunes, including the timeless title classic.
Hull Independent Cinema present the Spanish crime film Marshland, with English subtitles, on Tuesday 15 December as part of their programme of independent and world cinema. The story is set in a Spanish village where several teenagers have disappeared. But when two sisters vanish, homicide detectives from Madrid arrive to try and solve the mystery. Winner of 17 Goya awards including Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Film, this is an alternative Christmas trip to the cinema.
Christmas wouldn’t be the same without the story of George Bailey and his guardian angel Clarence Odbody. On Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December Hull Truck Theatre are showing the black and white classic It’s a Wonderful Life, which has become a Christmas staple in cinemas around the UK. Its mixture of humour, whimsy and sentimentality is a Yuletide treat not to be missed!
45 Years comes to Hull Truck Screen from the Hull Independent Cinema Project on Tuesday 22 December. The film stars Charlotte Rampling (ITV’s Broadchurch, BBC’s London Spy) as Kate and Tom Courtenay (Billy Liar, Doctor Zhivago) as Geoff. Kate is planning their 45th wedding anniversary party, but one week before the celebration a letter arrives with news that reawakens long-hidden memories. It’s an intimate, moving and beautifully restrained portrait of a marriage shaken to its core by things left unspoken.
On Monday 7 January Hull Truck Theatre are screening the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s production of The Winter’s Tale. The show is the opening production of Sir Branagh’s season at the Garrick Theatre in London, starring Dame Judi Dench as Paulina and Sir Branagh himself as Leontes.
